Using "order", you give orders to your familiar or to a player or
creature that you have charmed, summoned, or created. Normally you
order by name, e.g. "order flossie bow". There are some shorthand
forms of order for ordering groups, however:
order followers bow - everybody appropriate in the room bows
order plants bow - all awakened or charmed plants bow
order undead bow - all summoned, animated, or charmed undead bow

The order commands implicitly includes any threats, cajoling, or
other persuasion you must do to get your follower to obey you. For
this reason, it can lag you a bit. You will generally be lagged less
if ordering something that is following you because of a prime-class
skill or spell, e.g. a necromancer prime ordering an animated zombie.
